Movement + Location Trailer

Sci Fi, Indie, drama and plot, these are aspects that intrigue me and I am looking forward to viewing the film Movement + Location. Making a film can be really hard. Alot of people take the craft for granted, so many different crafts go into making a good film. I have a strong positive feeling that Movement + Location’s crew has done a good job, in the areas necessary for the film’s story to be told to me in a way that does not require extensive effort to watch (that is strong criteria for me when judging entertainment, not a special effects person as that is just spice).

I think the movie is taking a creative approach at a few issues that really are human issues. Setting these issues in a sci-fi can make them easier to digest and hopefully grow from. Love, loyalty, helping others, the affinity of man(kind), are just a few things for starters. Wrapping these all into a sci-fi plot that deals with these issues makes for an interesting package, that I am truly excited to see.

Synopsis

– Movement + Location is a casual science fiction thriller set in modern day Brooklyn.

-Kim Getty is an immigrant from 400 years in the future, sent back in time to live out an easier life. It’s a one-way trip of difficult isolation, but in the three years since she landed, Kim has built a life that feels almost satisfying. She has a full time job, shares an apartment with a roommate, and is falling in love.-But when she stumbles on a teenage girl who is also from the future, Kim’s remade sense of self is tested. After the girl leads Kim to her long-lost husband, now 20 years older than her and maladjusted to this time, Kim’s carefully designed identity begins to unravel.

-Kim finds herself having to choose between two entirely different lives. But once her secrets are exposed, the real decision is what she’s willing to do to survive.

Reviews:

Los Angeles Times

“Systematically yet subtly, the Bolings and their strong cast take this certifiably oddball film in some thoughtfully intriguing places.”

– Michael Rechtshaffen, The LA Times

THR

“Bottom Line: This low-key sci-fi feature boasts a terrific performance by Bodine Boling… Movement and Location is an intriguing, offbeat surprise.”

– Frank Scheck, The Hollywood Reporter

Chicago Sun Times Movement and Location

“… a Rod Serling-esque sci-fi adventure of the mind, devoid of special effects but convincing us of its dimension-breaking elements through the use of dialogue, performance and music.”

– Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun Times

Chicago Tribune Movement and Location

“Like its beguiling title… there’s very little about Movement and Location

that feels familiar or predictable.”

– Michael Rechtshaffen, Chicago Tribune

British Film Institute 1

“The drama that emerges from these broken, fugitive lives is as an allegory of exile, immigration and assimilation, while defamiliarising the things (food, water, space) that we take for granted in our own times.”

– Anton Bitel, British Film Institute

The Village Voice

Movement and Location is an original and intelligent immigrant drama… a surprisingly resonant film about how impossible it is for most people — no matter their cosmic time zone — to carve out a life that’s emotionally honest… You don’t have to be from the future to have the past come out of nowhere to screw up the present.”

– Chuck Wilson, The Village Voice

“It’s under-the-skin good.”

– Tim Cogshell, Film Week KPCC
